GIVEAWAY: Self Guided City Walks App

The best way to experience a city is to “lose yourself without getting lost”.

This is the slogan for company GPS My City who develops apps that accomplish just this. There are over 470+ city apps available to download, with each including numerous self-guided walking tours to assist with seeing the best of the city. Each city app includes a detailed map with instructions guiding you from sight to sight and pictures/brief descriptions about each destination. What’s even better is this app doesn’t require internet connection, so there is no need to worry about setting up a data plan when traveling abroad. To learn more about GPS My City click here.

To give you an idea of how the app works, I have downloaded the St. Louis Map and Walks, Full Version and completed one of the walks. For detailed instructions on how to use the app, see below.

First step is to select a walk. The walks are “themed” and the app will tell you how many sites are included, the duration, and distance of each self-guided walk. For St. Louis, I chose the Famous Architecture walk.

Second, review your route on the map. You can zoom in for additional details. The numbered dots are the sights. Click on the first destination and select “Get Route” at the bottom of the screen. The map will show the route to the first location.

The app also shows a photo of the sight and provides a brief write up of each destination.

Here’s me at the Arch!

For the rest of the destinations, simply select them on the map and follow the instructions to the next sight until you have reached all the locations.

The Old Courthouse was stop #2. What a beautiful dome inside!

Additional sights on this walk included: Wainwright Building, City Hall, and Public Library

This City Walks App was very easy to use and navigate. I liked that I was able to see the sites at my own pace and didn’t have to shell out money for a guide.

Like what you see? Want to download an app for your next excursion? Well lucky for you, I have partnered with GPS My City and will be giving away promo codes to download a Full Version of a City Walks app for iOS or Andriod devices. 1. Los Angeles, because there is so much to do here, but I never have the time to spend digging up fun ideas! When people come to visit, I’m always at a loss as to where to take them and what to do. I’m literally the worst tour guide ever, and I’ve lived here long enough for that not to be the case. I need the help and guidance!
